Welcome back for 10 more effective stress management practices that I believe you will find very helpful.  If you have not read part one, entitled ”10 ways of effective stress management,” I suggest you read that first… unless of course you are feeling a little obstinate at the moment, then you just go right ahead.

1. Choose to think positively!  Not only is this effective in relieving our stress throughout a day, but it will often enable us to think clearer, respond better to life’s situations, find more creative solutions to momentary problems, and a half dozen other possible benefits.

2. Prioritize your day!  By putting our most difficult and stressful tasks at the beginning of our day, we can free up the rest of your time to do those things we more readily enjoy… or at least cause us relatively less stress.  I realize not all of us have the freedom to choose our own schedules… so some of us may have to simply move on to the next suggestions.  But even if we are able to prioritize one weekend task, I believe we will find it definitely worth the effort!

3. Live below your means!  Why does it always take the stress of “a little more” for us to have enough?  I have heard it said, “The wealthiest/happiest person is never the one who has the most, but the one who is content with what they have.”

4. Embrace difficult moments!  I realize these times are often very draining and even seem downright impossible.  But to learn and embrace what can be gained within the situation is often what makes a person worth writing about… not to mention positively facing a dilemma almost always causes far less stress than running and resisting the same.

5. Start a Journal!  It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, or even well written.  Make it simple… documenting each success, to encourage you through times of failure; what you have gained through difficult times, to give you wisdom and endurance to get through another; and those absolutely hilarious moments, to remind you not to take life too seriously :-)

6. Avoid over eating!  In most cases I believe it is entirely OK to enjoy some of life’s finer and tastier foods… when we get the chance :-)   But for many of us, over eating cause’s guilt and bad health.  So enjoy the food, avoid the stress, and eat just enough to have a great time… and savor a few delicious morsels.

7. Stop comparing yourself with another!  In most cases, there will always be someone who is more, has more, and can do more than we can… no matter how much we strive.  So why stress it?  Rather, let’s give today our absolute best, and allow our self to genuinely enjoy the outcome… no matter how little it may seem!

8. Form good habits!  It’s true; the stress it takes to form a good habit can be for a while, daunting and difficult.  But the energy we give to achieve such a goal will in most cases be soon forgotten… that is, when we come to the realization of the significance of its resulting benefit.

9. Avoid “free trials” when it requires your credit card number!  This one may seem a little trivial… but it can really save a headache within just about a month or two.  These ads often appear harmless… and look like a great service for its potential customers.  But just try to get a refund on that unexpected charge, and it will stress you out right on the spot.

10. Get a dog… or a cat, if that is preferable!  Go to the humane society, find one that seems to click with your personality, and give it a really good home.  Statistically, those who have good pets are often less stressed and live longer.

Well, there you have it… 10 more stress management practices that many have found to be even life changing.  Remember, these are only as good as the time we give to make them a reality.  So, pick one, give it a whole hearted try for a month or two, and then let me know how you are doing.  Little side note… if you do decide to get a pet, do your best to pick one right the first time so you won’t have to return the poor pooch.
